How we help

Everything your business finances need, in one place.

Because these run under one practice, your books feed your taxes and your setup feeds both. Nothing falls through the cracks between three different providers.

Why a CPA practice

Why this beats a bookkeeper and a filing service.

Plenty of tools can record transactions or submit a form. Far fewer put a licensed CPA behind the work — someone accountable for accuracy and able to advise you when a real decision comes up.

With IMAAR Associates CPA, PLLC, the same practice that keeps your books also files your taxes and can guide big moves like hiring or an S-corp election. That continuity is where clean, defensible finances come from.

For startups specifically

Accounting built for a startup's timeline, not a mature business's.

A startup's finances look nothing like an established small business's — pre-revenue runway matters more than last quarter's profit, and a few early decisions (entity type, R&D credit eligibility, cap-table-adjacent bookkeeping) are hard to undo later.

Entity choice, done early and right

Planning to raise venture capital points toward a Delaware C-corp; a bootstrapped or lifestyle business is usually better served by an LLC. We help you choose before incorporation, not after a structure becomes expensive to unwind, and handle the formation itself.

The R&D tax credit payroll offset

A Qualified Small Business — generally under $5 million in current-year gross receipts, with no gross receipts more than five years back — can apply the federal R&D credit against up to $500,000 a year of payroll tax, for up to five years. That's real cash back for a startup with engineering payroll but no income tax bill yet.

Seed-stage books that hold up in diligence

Clean, accrual-aware bookkeeping from the start means runway numbers you can trust and financials that don't need a scramble before your next raise's due diligence.

One honest scope note: a 409(a) valuation for stock options is normally done by a dedicated valuation firm, not your CPA — we'll tell you when you need one and coordinate around it, rather than pretend it's part of our engagement.

We work with the major cloud platforms and will confirm the best fit for you on your consultation.

It depends on whether you plan to raise venture capital. VC-backed startups are almost always Delaware C-corps; most bootstrapped or lifestyle businesses are better off as an LLC, at least initially. We’ll walk through the tradeoffs for your specific plans rather than default to one answer.

Yes. If you qualify as a Qualified Small Business, the federal R&D credit can offset up to $500,000 of payroll tax per year for up to five years — real cash back for a pre-revenue or early-revenue startup that owes little or no income tax yet. We’ll confirm your eligibility and handle the election.
